Katoomba is a major town in the Blue Mountains, approximately 110 kilometres west of Sydney. It offers mountain views and bushwalks and is thus a popular tourist destination.

The court house is a sandstone building built in 1897, designed by Walter Liberty Vernon. It is on the Register of the National Estate.

Katoomba railway station is served by Cityrail which runs an hourly service from Sydney. Alternatively, it is approximately 90 minutes drive from the CBD.
